WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?

The European Lawyers’ Union (U.A.E.) is a non-profit Association that brings together the practicing lawyers in all the Member States of the European Union, with the primary aim of promoting the professional practice of law in Europe, as well as furthering the practice of European Union Law and of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The U.A.E. and its regional Delegations and Commissions organize numerous conferences and other events across Europe and promote the publication of the most relevant contributions.

The U.A.E. Scholarship for Young Lawyers aims to promote the participation of young lawyers in the activities of the U.A.E., by awarding an invitation to the Annual Congress and the General Assembly.

In 2022, the Annual Congress will take place at the end of June 2022 in Porto, Portugal, under the theme “The Regulation of Digital Space – the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act”, and the General Assembly in Dublin, Ireland, in November.

Young lawyers are cordially invited to apply to the Scholarship by submitting an application and completing an Essay related to the theme of the Annual Congress by 1 April 2022.

The Scholarship awards the following:

Invitation to the Annual Congress and General Assembly of 2022, including an exemption from registration fees. The next Annual Congress is scheduled to take place in Porto, Portugal in June 2022 and the General Assembly in Dublin, Ireland, in November 2022”.

AWARDS

Travel and accommodation expenses (to be organized and paid for by the U.A.E. and subject to a ceiling of 1,000 Euros per year).

AWARDS

Two-year free membership to the U.A.E. (for 2022 and 2023).

For 2022, one Scholarship will be given.

In view of the quality of the Essays, the Scholarship Committee, further to the agreement of the Executive Committee of the U.A.E., may decide to grant additional Scholarships (which in any event will not exceed a total of three).

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The Scholarship is open to young lawyers up to and including the age of 35 as of 1 November 2022, registered with a Bar Association within the European Union or of the Council of Europe, including trainee lawyers (insofar as already registered with the respective Bar Association, under the applicable rules).

U.A.E. membership is not required in order to submit an application.

THEME OF THE ESSAY

ESSAY

The Essay must be related to the theme of the 2022 Annual Congress: “The Regulation of Digital Space – the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act” (please see the list of examples of possible essay topics in paragraph 5 of the Terms and Conditions). The Essay must comply with the following format:

Typed in English or French

Up to 6,000 words, not including footnotes or the bibliography

Double spaced

Word file

The first page of the Essay must contain only the following information: Applicant’s full name and email address
